Minot? Why Not!

A few weekends ago we headed over to Minot because we wanted to get out of Williston for a few hours. We were off to see a movie and eat dinner. 

There were huge lines at all the dinner places (Olive Garden) we wanted to eat at so we drove until we came upon the Royal Fork.  Mysteriously the lines were very short which should have been a first clue as to the cuisine offered there.  The second was dodging between walkers and canes to find our table. Third the abundant variety of hearing aids worn by almost everyone but us.  As mentioned we took no thought to these signs thinking we had stumbled upon the Golden Corral of Minot handed to us on a silver platter.

After finding a table we left our stuff and headed for the counters lined with lush salads, savory meats, delicate pastas, and beaming deserts.  We both grabbed plates knowing the impending decision of what foods to try and what foods to pass was before us.  To our surprise the foods categorized in the latter category had a tremendous lead.  The salads had been left out far too long, the varieties of meats resembled 1960's meat loaf, pasta elementary school Macaroni and Cheese, and the desert two month old crispies.  When Alan got back to the table he asked if he could get some gelled water or ice cubes to eat.  To our advantage diner was short and we were our the door looking for the Carmike Cinema.

One would think the movie theater of town of more than forty thousand would have a stand alone, surprisingly not.  Using Alan's work phone we instructed Siri (the iPhone 5 helper lady) to give us directions to our Cinema of choice.  After turning left then right, then left, then right, and driving through almost every pothole the size of a of a small kettle pod near Ninepipes we arrived at a Chinese restaurant.   Luckily we left our dinner appointment early enough we had time to ask directions and drive all the way back to a block from The Royal Fork to find the Carmike Cinema located in the mall by a sporting goods store.  Who would have thought... 

The movie we chose to watch was The Croods. It's about a caveman family and there adventure when the world split into continents.  The grunting and logic reminded us a lot of working in the Knife River office but we enjoyed being some of the oldest people a a packed theater of three to six year-old children.  The movie was good, their random laughs great, and comments hilarious. 

Despite the restaurant food, we still enjoyed the date night and loved the movie.
