Sock Snowmen

I love crafting! It is one of my favorite things to do. So when I found this cute little snowmen on Pinterest  I couldn't resist. Over dinner one evening I showed my cousin and she loved them too. We decided that we'd make a craft date out of them. 

 You'll need the following:

1- white mid-calf sock. 

2- decorative ankle socks (we bought all the socks at the dollar store) 

Rice or beans for filler

twine or ribbon

rubberbands

buttons

something for the nose (we used tips off of toothpicks we painted orange)

hot glue gun or string and needle to sew on buttons 

Step 1: Fill the white sock full of rice.  Push the rice down as you go.  This will stretch the sock a bit and make it so you get a nice plump snowman in the end. Fill it has big as you want the snow man to be.  Then, close the top by wrapping a rubber band around the top and trimming the excess sock off. (this is your snowman's body)

Step 2:   Taking the ankle socks. Cut the toe and the heel off of one (making the sweater). The second sock you'll just cut off the heel (the hat).  

Step 3: First, take the sock without a toe and a heel and put it over your rice filled sock.  This becomes the sweater.  Then, pushing the rice down to make a solid base, secure it with a rubber band (this is wear you can add twine or ribbon to embellish the snowman).   Next do the same thing with the top of the sweater securing it with a rubber band.  Lastly add the hat.  The hat is the other sock that you cut up that still has the toe. 

Note: If you want more of a dress for the snowman don't add the rubber band to the bottom of the sweater. Simply glue the sock down to secure it in place.

Step 4:  Add your embellishments.  Eyes, nose, buttons etc...  you can sew them on if you want but we went for fast and just used hot glue.

Now one might ask what our husbands were doing while we were crafting.... 

There was a slight draft coming in the front door at Richard and Taresa's and with it being sub-zero temperatures you could really feel it. Alan and Richard decided to fix it while we were crafting. They bought this foam insulation type stuff and got it all taken care of. Afterwards they wanted to play with the foam considering it would just seize up. So they dumped it all in to a plastic bag. 

 Richard says he is going to carve the foam into a snowmen for his craft project.... we shall see.
