Last week we celebrated Thanksgiving because we are American! A movie on Facebook indicated that Brits (British people) think the holiday is about eating all the leftovers that have accumulated in the refrigerator. We'll in the Green house it's about a little more than eating reheated food.
The week started with Alan's post on Facebook in an effort to eat a slice of cherry pie. Please note the following:
To Alan's relief Richard and Taresa came Monday night for Family Home Evening so Alan could have his pie and eat it too. As part of family home evening we watched a video from the church about being grateful.
After the spiritual thought Alan came up with an activity called tear-able turkeys. It began with everyone recieving a piece of construction paper. With the paper behind our backs Alan gave us a couple minutes to tear the paper into the shape of a turkey. The results were as follows. Please note these are all turkeys...

Thanks to Richard and Taresa we had a successful FHE and finished it off with a slice of Cherry Pie!
Tuesday we made more preparations for thanksgiving my making more pie. In the bountiful basket from the previous week we received two coconuts so Alan had the brilliant idea to make homemade Coconut Creme Pie. We began by drilling a hole in the shells to drain the juice/milk.
| There was almost a one and a half cups of milk in each. |
Once we drained the liquid from the coconuts we had to figure out how to break them open. Let's just say it wasn't easy and the neighbors in the basement probably thought we were nuts. (coco-nuts, get it. ha)
| One hard blow and we were in business |
| Look at all the meat inside! |
| Using a knife we separated the meat from the shell and used a potato peeler to remove any remaining shell from the meat. |
With the coconut meat separated from the shell and cleaned it was ready to be ran through the food processor. In just the matter of minutes we had more coconut flakes then we knew what to do with so it was time to make the pie!
| Heating milk to a boil. |
| Separating the eye yokes and whites |
| Adding Corn Starch for thickener |
| With the creme filling simmering it was time to prep the coconut. |
| We toasted the coconut a few minutes to dry it |
| With the coconut and creme filling combined in the pie shell it was just a matter of time until it was cool enough to ad the meringue topping. |

| After! |
This thanksgiving we were blessed to have the Pedrazas and Weidows in town and they volunteered to cook the turkey and make the salad. I made some homemade rolls and some other odds and ends to complete the meal. We had a wonderful time getting together.

| The table waiting for guests to arrive. |
It was a wonderful Thanksgiving. We look forward to the up coming holidays and being able to celebrate them with more of our loved ones!
Happy Sunday!
